Sculpture cover

Nick van Woert

Thingy, 2006. Steel, paint, paper, expansion foam, plastic bag, concrete, foam, plywood, 40" x 40" x 36".

Discarded objects with little or no social value determine the shape of my sculptures. Material is applied to these objects, and gravity does the sculpting for me. I’m interested in how a combination of familiar things can create the circumstances out of which something peculiar can grow. It’s like an icicle forming on an overhang.
