On Saturday, November 12, 2016, Linda Fleming, Professor of Fine Arts and Sculpture at the California College of the Arts (CCA), was awarded International Sculpture Center’s (ISC) Outstanding Educator Award for 2016. The ceremony was held in the Tecoah Bruce Gallery at the Oliver Art Center at CCA, and coincided with a closing reception of Fleming's solo exhibition Tangible Mind.

Linda’s friends, family, colleagues, and students, came out to support the Artist/Professor and witness her receive the award. Allison Smith, Chair of CCA; Stephen Beal, President of CCA; Brian Gross of Brian Gross Fine Art Gallery spoke to Fleming’s success and inspiration as an outstanding educator. Robert Duncan, Collector, also expressed his congratulations “Congratulations Linda! I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this prestigious award. You have spent your entire life teaching and making art![...]We have known each other for more than 20 years and we are proud that our home, Lincoln, NE. has FOUR major works of yours. They each make me smile every time I encounter one. Again -- a hearty congratulations!

Presentation of the award was given by the ISC Executive Director, Johannah Hutchison, “Linda says “I never intended to teach” but I think there are an awful lot of students, fellow faculty members peers and friends that are grateful that she did. Her influence will continue to have impact on generations to come.

The ISC established the Outstanding Educator Award program in 1996 to recognize individual artist-educators who have excelled at teaching sculpture in institutions of higher learning.
