One Big Art Party

Friday, October 3, 2008
11 PM
Admission: Free for conference attendees and their guests

Don’t miss this explosion of innovative art forms at Michigan's largest contemporary arts center and its neighboring Avenue for the Arts.

The evening begins with enticing food, music and exhibitions of sculpture and ceramics at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA). Enjoy five new shows of groundbreaking work by regional, national and international artists—including UP: An Exhibition of Hovering, Folding, Inflating or Wheeling Sculpture.

Beginning at 7 PM, small group walking tours will depart every 15 minutes from the UICA and guide you down the Avenue for the Arts, host to more than 25 live/work studios, restaurants and galleries. Tours will also feature the downtown galleries of both Calvin College and Kendall College of Art & Design.

The Party will continue at ACTIVESITE, a unique venue showcasing sculpture by West Michigan faculty and students. ACTIVESITE seeks out and utilizes facilities that are not yet fully developed, that are vacant or otherwise in transition, providing a catalyst for collaboration between the art, business and development communities of West Michigan and beyond.

One Big Art Party will take place less than seven blocks from downtown hotels. Walking maps will be distributed at UICA.
