Gianluca Bianchino: Dispersing Form and Energy

Galactic Band, 2014. Gianluca Bianchino has quietly made a name for himself as a sculptor in New York area circles. He has done so despite the fact that his studio remains in New Jersey; although, as he points out, he has made a point of moving closer to New York City, holding a studio first in Montclair—he received his MFA from Montclair State University in 2010—then in Newark, and now in Jersey City, where he has also made a living working for Mana Contemporary, an immense arts complex and storage facility. In fact, the New Jersey art scene near New York is well established and increasingly sophisticated; inevitably, artists are attracted to the cheaper rents, though costs are rising.
