Gianluca Bianchino: Dispersing Form and Energy

Galactic Band, 2014. Gianluca Bianchino has quietly made a name for himself as a sculptor in New York area circles. He has done so despite the fact that his studio remains in New Jersey; although, as he points out, he has made a point of moving closer to New York City, holding a studio first in Montclair—he received his MFA from Montclair State University in 2010—then in Newark, and now in Jersey City, where he has also made a living working for Mana Contemporary, an immense arts complex and storage facility. In fact, the New Jersey art scene near New York is well established and increasingly sophisticated; inevitably, artists are attracted to the cheaper rents, though costs are rising. Even so, an exploratory and independent art spirit occupies these mostly working communities. ...see the entire article in the print version of March's Sculpture magazine.
