Jorge Palacios (Madrid, Spain 1979) divides his time between his studio in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City and his workshop in Spain.
His current solo exhibition is on view at The Noguchi Museum, in New York, through January 20, 2019 in three of the Museum’s indoor galleries and its sculpture garden. Jorge Palacios at The Noguchi Museum is curated by Dakin Hart, Senior Curator of the Museum. As part of the exhibition, a large - scale sculpture, Link, is installed on Flatiron Plaza North, across from the Flatiron Building and adjacent to Madison Square Park in Manhattan.
Jorge Palacios’s sculptures have been widely shown in public spaces, including in SoHo, in New York City, where he exhibited Sketch in the Air (2015), which was selected by Artnet as one of the ten most interesting public art works to see in Manhattan; in front of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, at the Floridablanca Sculpture Gardens, and in the “Torres de Colón” building, in Madrid; and, as part of an exhibition of his urban sculptures in the streets of Toledo, at that city’s Sun Gate, Bisagra Gate, and Santa Cruz Art Museum.
In spite of his youth he has exhibited with internationally recognised artists, such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Sol Lewitt, Olafur Eliasson, Jean Tinguely, Ernesto Neto, Michelangelo Pistoletto and John Baldessari.
His sculptures have been exhibited in museums, among others, such as the Museum of Fine Arts of Guadalajara, the Santa Cruz Art Museum or the Mirador hall of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and in Contemporary Art Institutions amongst which it is worth highlighting the Canal Foundation of Madrid, the Fuensalida Palace of Toledo or the Exhibition Center of the Principality of Monaco, in Monte - Carlo, as well in spaces as the Executive Terminal of the Madrid - Barajas Airport.
His work has been present in International Contemporary Art Fairs in the United States, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. Palacios's work is included in public and private collections in Canada, Switzerland, Spain and the United States, carrying out sculptures for bodies such as the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the American Hardwood Export Council, based in Washington D.C. (USA) or for the American company International Data Corporation, as some of his latest commissions.
Jorge Palacios has taken part in the Arts Program of International Festivals such as the Bereberia-Sahara (Morocco) or the The Guardian Hay Festival. He has served as contemporary arts advisor and jury member at creative arts meetings and awards.
He has been a guest speaker at conferences, round tables, and symposia organized by institutions and entities such as the Consulate General of Spain (New York), the Embassy of Spain (Washington DC), Open House New York, ETSAB (Superior School of Architecture of Barcelona of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia), AHEC (American Hardwood Export Council), Tecnalia Research & Innovation (San Sebastián, Spain), and EASD (Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Segovia).
He has obtained grants from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Miguel Hernández University, the Eduardo Capa Foundation for the Sculpture University and the III Millenium Corporation, Wilmington DE. He is a member of the Spanish Institute of Contemporary Art, IAC, and is involved with the International Sculpture Center, ISC, United States, and the European Sculpture Network, Germany.
