As one of six children, Bill grew up in the foothills of East Tennessee.  As a young child, he took up wood carving with a pocket knife and could often be found creating small carvings from the plentiful cedar wood on the family farm.  His parents encouraged his artistic tendencies and over the years, this fascination has continued to develop into a true passion for creating three dimensional pieces.  He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1995.  It was there that he discovered sculpting in clay and became enamored with the whole process of creating interesting sculptural forms.  Then, in the late 1990’s, he started using marble as a sculptural medium and he was hooked!  He relishes the tremendous physical, mental and spiritual effort that is necessary to coax the beauty from a material that has such inherent resistance to change.  Bill currently resides in Knoxville with his wife Kelley and their three beautiful children who inspire him greatly with their wonderful souls and their zest for life.  He endeavors to impart that inspiration into his work and eagerly looks forward to continuing his journey to create beautiful and meaningful art.  With each piece of sculpture that he breathes life into, he aspires to learn something new while increasing his ability to express himself and the world around him using the magical medium of marble.
