Michael Shewmaker is a sixty two year old sculptor from Pepeekeo, Hawaii. Michael has enjoyed a lifelong passion for public sculpture that originated from an early introduction to the stabile works of Alexander Calder and the construction of the St. Louis Arch near his home in Illinois. He received a degree in Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University where he studied metalsmithing and ceramics then continued with post-graduate work in Art History at San Diego State University and the University of Florida. Michael Shewmaker’s works have been exhibited throughout the U.S. in a wide range of sculpture exhibitions. He maintains a sculpture garden and studio near his home in Hawaii that he shares with his wife of thirty-three years, Keiko.
