A sense of place is what interests me in my work. It could be a town, a river, or boulders in a field.  Vermont, New Hampshire and Québec are regions that I cull from within my own heritage of French Canadian, Abenaki, and English.  I believe that the visual recording of time is analogous to the oral tradition of history:  both are interpretations of events. Materials are of great significance, and carry their own energy:  whether it is cold rolled steel, wool from the Johnson Woolen Mills, quills from the eastern porcupine, walnut ink that I make, or black felt paper reminiscent of days worked roofing with my father.   I weld and form everything in my work, including the hooks and attachments to the wall, some of which resemble pitchforks, giving a nod to our agrarian and fluvial way of life.   I strive to capture the energies of these places and evoke a feeling of something familiar yet seen in a new way.
