Sawyer Rose is a sculpture and mixed-media artist working in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Rose’s current project is on view at Room Gallery, Mill Valley, CA. The exhibition “Seeds of the Monoliths” showcases suspended metal sphere forms, wall-hanging sculptures, and large-scale, free-standing floor pieces.
Also in 2015, in conjunction with Chandra Cerrito Contemporary, Oakland, CA, Rose exhibited a large-scale, site-specific installation titled "FLUX." Suspended orb sculptures, armored in silver solder and copper, created dynamic clusters in a warehouse-sized arts venue.
Rose has been commissioned by Kaiser Permanente to produce a six-panel metalwork for their corporate offices. Developers Gerding Edlen asked Rose to install a large-scale silkscreen on glass in The Etta Building, San Francisco, CA. Pacific Peninsula Group, architects and developers, commissioned a nine-piece suspended sculpture installation for one of their luxury showcase homes.
In 2016, Rose will attend residencies at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland and Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. She was awarded residency at Vermont Studio Center in 2013 and 2014. She is also the artist-in-residence for the Town of Fairfax, CA for 2015, re-hired for 2016.
She has been awarded merit grants from The Center for Cultural Innovation’s Creative Capacity Fund and Vermont Studio Center.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Oakland Art Murmur, Oakland, CA. Formerly she worked as the Director of Fothoui Kramer Gallery, East Hampton, NY.
