ARTIST STATEMENT

Using motors, wood, hardware, wire, rope and other industrial materials, I create abstract kinetic assemblages that move and make sound. I often think of myself as a choreographer, except instead of creating movement for human dancers, my dancers are wood, hardware and motors.

I am inspired by motion I see in urban environments and in nature, and my goal is to make pieces with movement that appear to be organic. My sculptures are usually motorized;  sometimes, however, they are not, and the motion is caused by the viewer physically engaging with the piece, e.g., pulling a rope which causes the movement.
