Iron and steel; materials found naturally in the center of the earth, in our blood and in outer space,  are made today, destroying vast forests and mountains.  To manipulate these materials, processes steeped in both contradictions and honesty, and my obsession, fraught with hypocrisy and self doubt; I employ blacksmithing techniques, using forging operations as the building blocks of my visual vocabulary. This approach is the constant.  The intentions constantly evolve. I’ve recently begun to incorporate video and other materials and people in collaborations.  Attempting to give the abstract sculpture a more wholistic and conceptual context and meaning.  I see garbage strewn around my neighborhood, blowing in the wind, knowing that it winds up in the ocean and how it’s a symptom of bigger problems.  These problems my past work has addressed, social inequality and personal struggles, that become tied to a lack of self respect and the need to exert power over anything to quell anger towards the flawed system.  The trashing of the world, the identification of the Anthropocene and the rise of post industrialized capitalism brings the level of waste to spectacular heights having major consequences throughout our waterways, oceans, and entire food chain.
