Aluminum, Light

9TH Street Median Gateway, Salina, Kansas, USA. Aluminum, integrated designed lighting. This illuminated laser cut and fabricated aluminum sculptural installation creates a contemporary gateway to the city. The combined use of laser cut and semi-transparent aluminum mesh in this piece creates an interactive, luminous visual effect both day and night. At night, the sculpture is illuminated from within with designed LED lighting, set on a photo cell. This image illustrates the sculpture at night. The composition which consists of six semi-transparent sculptural forms, echoes the shelter-belt trees of the Kansas landscape, silhouetted against the horizon, as seen in winter. Commissioned by City of Salina, Kansas, Arts and Humanities Commission.
