Hive Series
4' x 4' x 1'

The hive series is about the juxtaposition of repeated forms and the spaces they create when the arrangement of those forms are explored. In nature, a hive illustrates the natural balance between strength and fragility, curiosity and avoidance, security and vulnerability. In these arrangements, these concepts are explored using a geometric configuration of multiple ceramic forms. The combination of these elements create an abstract interpretation of a hive structure both physically and conceptually. These installations are comprised of multiple individual diamond shaped of forms of clay with holes cut and carved into one half of them. They individual pieces are approximately 9″ in length and 4″ wide. The composition of the pieces is varied from a linear to spiral clusters. These pieces are hand-built from high fired stoneware and each piece is original and unique.
