Artist Statement

My choice of material questions how we interact with and perceive the objects that surround us. Soap is derived from fat, and my thinly cast sheets, inspired by clothing, become a skin, supported by hard steel structures that emphasize surface fragility. The steel provides a stage on which the soap performs according to gravity and time. Like skin, soap lives and breathes, shrinking, curling, and cracking as it ages. Though these simple sculptures project little, the material asks much.
