My work is inspired by Mexico's craft tradition
and memories of my parents' video stores in
Ciudad Juarez. The movies were American,
bought in El Paso. My use of molds and casts
echoes how we copied VHS tapes. Cast clay VCRs,
which come to sputtering life with servo motors
and lights, are accompanied by tapes, hand glazed
with traditional patterns. My creative
identity reflects a life in both countries – a reality
in which a border is a bridge and not a division.
