My work responds to my father's cancer and a mass
growing on my fifth vertebra. Though not life-threatening,
this mass has forced me to think about my
mortality, as well as what we can and cannot control.
Most of my sculptures have a fatty wax tumor
coming from or attaching itself to wood. Two separate
things, the structure and the growth exist
together–the growth marking an intervention
between the material's natural state and the form it
wants to take.
